Earth Day 2023

Widdop & Co's Green Credentials On Earth Day 2023
Did you know that since 1970, April 22nd marks a highly significant day in global environmental calendar?
This year marks the 53rd anniversary that Earth Day will be supported. It is an annual event where people come together and show their support for environmental protection.
Billions of people from over 190 countries take part in supporting this cause. It is all about working towards a greener, environmentally friendlier version of the world. The significant theme this year is, Invest in Our Planet.
It is with all the above in mind, that we at Widdop & Co. now wanted to put our green credentials on the table for you to see. You see, we are proud of our environmental record. Nevertheless, as always, we are constantly striving to do more and be better.

Making Greener Choices

Widdop and Co’s sustainability comes under three main areas which we label as our ‘Greener Choices’ campaign. For example, these are head office operations, products, and social factors.
The term corporate sustainability involves a business making a positive impact on the environment and our communities. We fully believe this concept can be applied to us here at Widdop and Co

Kite Packaging
A second factor has seen more sustainable packaging used in distribution centres to our customers.
Changes have been occurring since 2018, and eventually resulted in us moving to Kite Packaging.
The latter being a significant development because it involves eco-friendly materials.

More Recycling
Recycling plays an integral part in our business. In 2021, over 89% from our UK waste track was recycled.
Today, our commitment goes further still as we recycle cardboard from shipped in products, to the packaging of deliveries to our customers.
In addition to this, we are also very proud of our impressive range of recycled plastic photo frames.

Renewable Energy Supplies

As mentioned previously. We are constantly looking to change and improve.
A few ways in which we are looking to improve is by moving to electric vehicles and looking to implement solar panels to our head office as our energy usage is constantly being monitored.

Sustainable Raw Materials
Sustainability again is a keyword for us and is at the forefront of our product design.
Design for life is a goal of ours as we try and enable secondary usage of products where possible.
We use more sustainable raw materials such as bamboo, recycled plastics, and wood sourced from sustainably managed forests. The latter exist in our Bambino range. Examples of such products are the wooden star teether and the rattle teething toy with either pastel pink, pastel blue or pastel grey silicone beads.

Finishing Products In-House

As of 2023 we now have various ways to finish products in-house.
These include a variety of techniques including sublimation, UV printing, laser cutting and engraving.
Our brand Now or Never allows you to create your own products for us to design in-house, cutting out any need to use international suppliers.

Removal of Plastic Packaging
Where possible a removal of plastic packaging, reporting yearly on usage, aiming for 100% by 2027.
Our social contributions including being a founding member of Slave Free Alliance. Supporting local charities with 0.5% of net profit and moving to 100% ethically audited factories.

That concludes the summary of our current green credentials on Earth Day 2023.
We are proud of how far we have come and we are going in the right direction, however there is always room to do more which we are always looking at.
